EXCELLENT Based on 102 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Jordan MVerified The most unforgettable way to see Ha Long Bay To any and all confident kayakers: This will be the highlight of your Vietnam trip. This experience is an ecofriendly way to explore Ha Long Bay away from tourist crowds. It is not a tour but an independent way to kayak outside of Cat Ba and enjoy the limestone karsts. A guide explains the boundaries which stretch for a few miles. However, you must be a strong kayaker familiar with open sea kayaking, OR make sure to travel in a self-organised group, as the weather can be unpredictable and other day trip cruises frequent the area. This was the most AMAZING experience, and worth every dollar. I can't recommend it enough. Posted on Tripadvisor Sara GVerified Wonderful time with Cat Bay Kayak Adventures We recently did the 3D/2N tour with Cat Ba Kayak Adventures. We stayed one night at the homestay and one night on the Junk Boat. Between the two, our favorite was the night on the homestay as we stayed in a peaceful cove away from other tourists. The accommodations were spartan but clean. If you want to do lots of kayaking away from the throngs of tourists in Ha Long Bay, this tour is for you!!! Our guide, Hieu was an encouraging guide and very personable. On the third day, we hiked to Navy Peak Tower and were rewarded with stunning views. The company was well organized and we would book with them again if we find ourselves in Cat Ba.Posted on Tripadvisor Tuhina RVerified Fabulous outfit They all expressed satisfaction and immense pleasure with the trip. The specific comments from my family: Mr Ming was really great . We loved his flexibility with our itinerary, catering to our needs and all the information he gave us. Floating homestay was cozy and beautiful . One of the bathroom doors needs to be repaired . Food was absolutely amazing . The location was lovely and we will be backPosted on Tripadvisor John PVerified Cat Ba Kayak Adventures delivers a high quality experience for the adventurous minded traveler. Cat Ba Kayak Adventures is everything as advertised. We purchased a 3 day, 2 night tour that included a floating homestay, 2 days of kayaking and 1 day of biking and hiking. Mong was an excellent guide that catered to our every need and who was very personable, with great English skills and a lifetime of local knowledge. The food and accommodations at the homestay exceeded our expectations with family style meals that were delicious, local and in overly generous portions. The rooms were clean with comfortable, firm beds and private bathrooms. Exploring the area by kayak was definitely the best way to see this geologically unique ecosystem, although the amount of plastic pollution was disappointing but well beyond the control of any one business to deal with. Biking into the nearby village of Viet Hai was a delight, and although the hike up to Navy peak was challenging, it offered some absolutely stupendous views of the surrounding area. I would highly recommend Cat Ba Kayak Adventures and will definitely use them again when I return to the area.Posted on Tripadvisor JLP20142014Verified Awesome sea kayaking around Lan Ha Bay We did a two day one night sea kayaking trip in Lan ha Bay. Everything about it exceeded expectations. The scenery was beautiful, our guide Ming was excellent and they overnight stay in LAN home stay was beautiful. The food was amazing throughout as wellPosted on Tripadvisor I am the SidVerified A really excellent trip to the less busy areas around Cat Ba We had an excellent trip booked with these guys and I can thoroughly recommend them. The organisation is excellent, the equipment is top quality - much better kayaks than the "sit on" type which means you can go further on your trip. Our trip was 4 days/3 nights and the first two full days we kayaked in 4 different locations - most trips concentrate on a smaller, very busy area. The scenery is really stunning and our excellent guide Ming knew the best places to go Days 3 and 4 were cycling and trekking to viewpoints on Catba and were well worth doing First night was on a floating homestay, second on a junk and third at the Blue Lagoon homestay in Cat Ba. Accommodation and food were excellent at all of them. I must mention Ming again - he was awesome - he knows a lot of interesting stuff and the best paces to visit, his English is great and he took great care of us throughout.Posted on Tripadvisor Simone JVerified A wonderful day out kayaking in Lan Ha Bay with a professional and friendly crew. Ming, the guide for the day, was very helpful. He was friendly and happy to answer any questions about the local area and adapt the trip to suit your needs and wants. He even taught me some Vietnamese words as we were paddling around. The lunch was delicious and very generous and I would definitely choose these guys again for a genuinely local, less touristy experience. The bay itself was beautiful, calm and paddling here was a magical experience.Posted on Tripadvisor Sharon WVerified Best Kayak Teip in Lan Ha Bay! Booked last minute as let down by another tour company. Collected promptly from our hotel, taken to the boat that picked up the kayaks and took us out. Easy 3 hour kayak paddle around the Lan Ha archipelago with our expert guide, Minh, who was excellent company. He was so informative about his beloved Lan Ha area and generally great company; he is fluent in English! We were lucky enough to spot a family of 3 Cat Ba langur (critically endangered species) crouching in the rocks, made our day! My husband then enjoyed a swim off the boat. Returned back to our hotel by car. Cannot rate this trip highly enough, do it, you will not be disappointed!Posted on Tripadvisor Nancy CVerified Well worth it but spend some time picking up trash is a horrendous problem for this beautiful place This is a great trip. We enjoyed the kayaking but be aware the water is heavily polluted with plastic trash. We spent our time kayaking and collecting trash. We did a nice hike and enjoyed where we stayed. Henry also realized that charging an extra 3% on credit card payments is nonsense.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. The journey to the village is often just as memorable as the destination itself, especially when combined with kayaking through Lan Ha Bay or cycling through the valley.
For active travellers, Viet Hai is one of the best places on Cat Ba Island to connect several adventure activities in one itinerary. You can kayak through the bay, land near a quiet harbour, cycle through the valley, visit the village and continue trekking through Cat Ba National Park. This makes Viet Hai Village especially valuable for SEO-focused travel planning searches such as Cat Ba cycling tour, Viet Hai Village trekking, Lan Ha Bay kayak tour and Cat Ba National Park adventure.
Things to Do in Viet Hai Village
1. Cycle Through Viet Hai Valley
Mountain biking or cycling is one of the best ways to explore Viet Hai Village. The road into the valley is peaceful, scenic and surrounded by limestone mountains and forest. It is suitable for most travellers and gives you time to enjoy the rural scenery, stop for photos and see daily life in the village.
2. Trek Through Cat Ba National Park
Viet Hai is closely connected with trekking routes through Cat Ba National Park. Depending on the itinerary, travellers may walk through forest trails, limestone valleys and viewpoints overlooking the surrounding mountains and bay. These trekking routes are a major reason why Viet Hai Village is included in many of the best Cat Ba adventure tours.
3. Combine Viet Hai With Lan Ha Bay Kayaking
Many visitors reach Viet Hai after kayaking or cruising through Lan Ha Bay. This combination is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the region because it connects sea, forest and village life in one journey. Kayaking allows you to explore hidden lagoons, limestone islands and floating fishing areas before heading inland to Viet Hai Village.
4. Experience Local Village Life
Viet Hai Village offers a glimpse into a slower and more traditional way of life on Cat Ba Island. Visitors can see gardens, village homes, local farms and community life in a quiet valley setting. Responsible tourism is important here, so travellers should be respectful, avoid littering and support local businesses where possible.
5. Photograph Limestone Mountains and Rural Landscapes
The route to Viet Hai Village is one of the most photogenic inland journeys on Cat Ba Island. Limestone cliffs, jungle-covered hills, quiet roads and rural scenery make it an excellent destination for photography, especially for travellers who want something different from standard Ha Long Bay cruise images.
How to Get to Viet Hai Village
Most visitors reach Viet Hai Village by boat through Lan Ha Bay, often starting from the Cat Ba area or Ben Beo Harbour. From the landing area, visitors continue by bicycle, electric cart or on foot through the valley to the village. This route is much more scenic than arriving by road alone and allows travellers to experience both the bay and the island interior.
Viet Hai is also included in guided adventure itineraries that combine kayaking, cycling, trekking and overnight stays. Joining a guided tour is usually the easiest way to visit because transport, boat access, activities, meals and timing are arranged together.
Best Time to Visit Viet Hai Village
The best time to visit Viet Hai Village is generally from October to April, when the weather is cooler and more comfortable for cycling and trekking. Spring and autumn are especially pleasant for outdoor activities. Summer can be hot and humid, but it is still possible to visit, especially with early starts, shaded routes and time on the water in Lan Ha Bay.
Viet Hai Village and Responsible Travel
Because Viet Hai Village sits within a sensitive natural and cultural landscape, responsible travel matters. Visitors should stay on marked routes, avoid disturbing wildlife, reduce plastic waste and respect local homes, gardens and community areas. Small-group tours are often better suited to this environment because they create less pressure on the village and offer a more personal experience.

Lan Ha Bay is one of the best kayaking destinations in Vietnam. Paddle between limestone islands, enter quiet lagoons and explore sheltered waters away from the busy cruise routes.
Visit Floating Fishing Villages
Traditional fishing communities around Cat Ba and Lan Ha Bay offer a glimpse of local life on the water, including floating homes, fish farms and working boats.
Swim at Secluded Beaches
Many small beaches in Lan Ha Bay are only accessible by boat or kayak, making them ideal for quiet swimming stops during a guided adventure tour.
Trek in Cat Ba National Park
Combine a Lan Ha Bay kayak trip with rainforest trekking through Cat Ba National Park to reach panoramic viewpoints over the bay and island landscapes.
Mountain Bike to Viet Hai Village
Viet Hai Village is surrounded by jungle, limestone mountains and peaceful valleys. Cycling here is one of the best ways to experience the rural side of Cat Ba Island.
Sleep on a Junk Boat or Homestay
Overnight tours let you experience Lan Ha Bay after the day boats leave, with options including classic junk boats, floating village stays and Cat Ba homestays.
Lan Ha Bay Kayaking Tours
The best way to experience Lan Ha Bay is from the water. Our guided Cat Ba kayak tours are designed for small groups, with local guides who choose routes based on tides, weather, ability and the best conditions of the day.

Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba National Park & UNESCO Recognition
Lan Ha Bay sits beside Cat Ba Island, an area internationally recognised for its limestone landscapes, marine ecosystems and biodiversity. The UNESCO World Heritage Centre lists Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago as a World Heritage property, while UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme recognises the Cat Ba Archipelago Biosphere Reserve. This makes the region important not only for tourism, but also for conservation, biodiversity and responsible travel.
Best Time to Visit Lan Ha Bay
Lan Ha Bay can be visited year-round, but the best months for kayaking and outdoor adventure are usually spring and autumn, when temperatures are comfortable and the weather is more stable. Summer can be hot and humid with dramatic scenery after rain, while winter can be cooler and quieter. Because conditions on the bay change with wind, tide and weather, guided tours are the safest and most rewarding way to explore.
How to Get to Lan Ha Bay
Most travellers reach Lan Ha Bay via Cat Ba Island. Tours usually start from Cat Ba or include transport from Hanoi, followed by road and ferry or speedboat connections to the island. Ben Beo Harbour is one of the main gateways for boats entering Lan Ha Bay, Cai Beo Floating Village and nearby kayaking areas.
Responsible Travel in Lan Ha Bay
Lan Ha Bay is a fragile coastal environment. Responsible visitors should avoid single-use plastic, respect fishing communities, never disturb wildlife, and follow guide instructions when kayaking near caves, beaches and floating villages. Choosing small-group tours with local guides helps reduce pressure on crowded cruise routes while supporting the Cat Ba community.
Frequently Asked Questions About Lan Ha Bay
Is Lan Ha Bay good for kayaking?
Yes. Lan Ha Bay is one of the best places in Vietnam for kayaking because of its calm water, limestone islands, hidden lagoons, small beaches and quieter atmosphere compared with the busiest parts of Ha Long Bay.
Is Lan Ha Bay part of Ha Long Bay?
Lan Ha Bay is located beside Ha Long Bay and shares the same limestone seascape. It is closely connected to the wider Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago World Heritage region, but it is accessed mainly from Cat Ba Island.
Is Lan Ha Bay better than Ha Long Bay?

2 Days 1 Night Kayaking – Trekking Lan Ha Bay Escape FAQ
While geographically part of the same stunning limestone karst ecosystem, Lan Ha Bay is significantly quieter and less crowded than neighboring Ha Long Bay. Lan Ha Bay features more pristine, secluded sand beaches and hidden lagoons accessible only by kayak. Because it sees far fewer massive cruise ships, it offers a cleaner, much more authentic, and peaceful kayaking and trekking adventure.
Yes! Solo travelers are very welcome on all of our itineraries. Our tours are highly social small-group experiences, making it easy to meet fellow adventurers. For kayaking, we typically use stable tandem (double) kayaks, meaning you will pair up with a guide or another traveler. Please note there is a single supplement fee if you request a private cabin on our overnight Junk or homestay tours.
To secure your booking, we require a deposit or full payment in advance depending on the itinerary. We accept secure online card payments, PayPal, and bank transfers. Any remaining balances can be settled at our main office near Ben Beo Pier before departure using cash (VND or USD) or major credit cards. Please note that according to our policy, payment must be made in full before departure to finalize your booking manifest.

If you can comfortably walk for an hour and ride a bicycle, you will enjoy our kayaking, trekking, and biking activities. We offer varied paces, and our guides are happy to adjust the intensity to match the group’s ability.
We recommend packing light for the bay. Essential items include: quick-dry clothing, swimwear, comfortable footwear for trekking (sandals or light sneakers), a hat, sunglasses with a strap, and high-SPF sunscreen. Don’t forget your passport or a photo of it (required for port registration) and a waterproof bag for your electronics, We provide a Dry Bag for your personel daily items on every Kayak tour.
For our group tours, we provide complimentary pickup from hotels within the Hanoi Old Quarter. If you are staying outside of this area, we will coordinate a central meeting point for you to join the shuttle bus.
You will find 4G mobile coverage available at our Floating homestay Blue Lagoon and Lan Ha Homestay locations and in many parts of the bay near the mainland. Coverage can be limited or intermittent while we are cruising or kayaking in the deeper, secluded parts of the bay on our Junk boats, allowing for a true “off-the-grid” nature experience.
We provide all necessary safety and activity gear, including high-quality kayaks, paddles, and life jackets (PFDs). For tours involving biking or trekking, we provide well-maintained bicycles and all necessary access fees for the National Park and bay areas.
The trekking on Cat Ba Island is a highlight for adventure seekers. Depending on your chosen itinerary, you will hike through lush jungle paths, enjoying the biodiversity of Cat Ba National Park. The trails offer a rewarding experience with terrain ranging from moderate forest paths to rocky inclines leading to stunning viewpoints.
Absolutely! Many of our hiking routes, such as the trek up to Hai Quan Peak (Navy Peak), are specifically chosen because they offer breathtaking, panoramic photo opportunities over both Lan Ha Bay and Ha Long Bay. These viewpoints are perfect for capturing the iconic limestone karst scenery.
Your safety is our priority. We strictly follow government tourism guidelines and instructions from the Management Board of the Bay. In the rare event of unsafe weather conditions (such as tropical storms), tours may be delayed or cancelled. If we must cancel due to official government directives, we will offer alternative dates or a tour of a similar standard to ensure your trip remains unforgettable.
Yes, absolutely! We regularly accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and specific food allergy requests. Since our meals feature fresh, local Vietnamese seafood and ingredients prepared onboard our Junk boats or at the floating village homestay, please inform us of any dietary requirements or food allergies when making your booking so our team can prepare a custom menu for you.
No, expert swimming skills are not required. Lan Ha Bay is highly sheltered, resulting in calm, glassy waters with minimal waves. Furthermore, wearing a high-quality life jacket (PFD) is strictly mandatory for all guests while on the water. Our professional local guides are fully trained in water safety and will be right beside you the entire time.
If you are traveling from Hanoi for an overnight tour, you can bring your luggage with you. It can be safely stored in your private cabin aboard our Deluxe Junk boat or at the homestay. 3 Day 2 Nights Cruising, Kayaking, Trekking and Biking Overnight on Junk FAQ
Our kayaking itineraries are designed for active exploration, typically involving 4 to 6 hours of paddling per day. We break this up into morning and afternoon sessions to ensure you have plenty of time to visit hidden lagoons, caves, and beaches without feeling rushed.
While you do not need to be an elite athlete, our tours are geared toward travelers who enjoy an active lifestyle.
Alternatively, if you have oversized bags you prefer not to carry, you are welcome to securely store your main luggage at our main office near Ben Beo Pier for free while you are out exploring the bay.
